[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Dae-seok), the Seo-gu Community Social Security Council (Chairman Jang Hyun), and the Seo-gu Volunteer Center (Director Jo Man-ho) recently supported flood recovery efforts in Jindo and Gangjin by providing a laundry vehicle and a mobile laundry truck donated by Samsung Electronics Gwangju Plant's Warmth Sharing Laundry.
According to Seo-gu on the 16th, the 'Warmth Sharing Laundry,' the first of its kind operated in Gwangju, was providing daily laundry services while touring 18 neighborhoods and nearby institutions. Upon receiving a request from the Social Contribution Center of Samsung Electronics Gwangju Plant to assist the flood-affected site in Jindo County, they rushed to Jindo.
The rainfall poured over the past three days in Jindo was about 500mm, which is half of the usual annual rainfall, causing flood damage that submerged around 300 households.
From the first day the vehicle was stationed in front of the village hall, a continuous line of residents carrying blankets and wet clothes formed upon seeing the laundry vehicle. The six washing machines installed in the laundry truck worked nonstop, cleaning the muddy clothes of the residents.
Despite days and nights of efforts to return to normal life by handling water-damaged furniture, home appliances, and daily necessities, the rural village mainly inhabited by elderly people was unable to even think about dealing with wet laundry. Therefore, Seo-gu's laundry vehicle and volunteer workforce were a great help to the flood victims.
Additionally, volunteers and the laundry vehicle from the Seo-gu Volunteer Center, which operates another Warmth Sharing Laundry vehicle in Seo-gu, recently visited the flood site in Habun Village, Maryang-myeon, Gangjin County, to provide laundry volunteer services.
Seo Dae-seok, Mayor of Seo-gu, said, "When Seochang-dong was flooded last year, the Warmth Sharing Laundry vehicle from Paju visited and helped with flood recovery. This time, Seo-gu helped Jindo and Gangjin with the same method for flood recovery," and added, "We prayed together for the speedy recovery of the residents in the flood-affected areas."
