[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission allowed the restart (criticality) of Shin-Wolsong Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1, which has been undergoing regular inspection since April, on the 16th.

The NSSC explained, "During this regular inspection, we conducted 89 tests that must be performed before criticality and confirmed that the reactor can achieve criticality safely in the future."

The NSSC discovered that the heat transfer buffer plate of the coolant charging line had detached during the regular inspection and, after evaluating the integrity of the charging line nozzle without the heat transfer buffer plate, confirmed there were no abnormalities. Additionally, 12 foreign objects inside the steam generator were removed, and the performance standard values, allowable limits, and test results of safety-related pumps such as the shutdown cooling pump and high-pressure safety injection pump met the requirements. There were no issues with the performance of diesel generators, mobile power facilities, and emergency cooling water external injection facilities, which prevent major accidents.

The NSSC stated, "We plan to finally confirm safety through 10 follow-up tests, including the power ascension test."
