[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyungpil] On the 15th, Wando County, Jeollanam-do, held the 4th shipment ceremony for the export of Wando rice, ‘Wando Jayeon Geudaero Mi,’ to Russia at the Wando Nonghyup Joint Rice Processing Center (RPC), attended by about 10 people including Bong Jin-moon, Deputy Governor of Wando, Lee Bok-seon, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, Kim Mi-nam, Chairman of Wando Nonghyup, and heads of township Nonghyup branches, the county announced on the 16th.

The Wando Jayeon Geudaero Mi to be exported this time amounts to 18 tons, which will be shipped from Busan Port and distributed to the rice markets in Sakhalin Oblast and supermarkets in Vladivostok, Russia, about a week later.

Wando Jayeon Geudaero Mi first received Halal certification in 2018 and was first exported to Malaysia. In 2019, it was exported to the United States, and in 2020, after obtaining GAP certification, it has been exported to Russia as well.

In particular, it has been recognized by Russian buyers and local residents as “the highest quality rice from Korea,” and from 2020 to 2025, an export agreement for 700 tons worth about 2 billion KRW has been signed.

Wando County introduced the new variety ‘Saechungmu’ to export the highest quality rice. It is known among domestic consumers for its excellent taste and is highly evaluated by farmers for its productivity and cultivation stability.

Wando Jayeon Geudaero Mi is produced using the ‘natural farming method’ based on Wando’s pristine natural environment, including uncontaminated soil, clean air free of fine dust, clear water, and mineral-rich sea breeze. It is produced with pilot projects and technical support from the Rural Development Administration and Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services.

Meanwhile, the Wando Agricultural Technology Center has acquired GAP certification for the entire 342 hectares of the ‘highest quality rice complex,’ establishing a foundation for supplying safe agricultural products.

Governor Shin Woo-cheol said, “The continuous export of Wando agricultural products is recognized for their quality and stability,” adding, “We will continue to strive to produce the highest quality agricultural products, contribute to the marine healing industry, increase farmers’ income, and grow alongside the county’s key projects.”
