[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk Province (Mayor Yoo Jinseop) announced on the 14th that starting from the 15th, it will promote a “Free Salinity Meter Rental Project” to help prevent excessive sodium intake, which is a cause of chronic diseases such as osteoporosis, hypertension, and heart disease.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the ideal daily sodium intake is about 2000mg.
The average sodium intake of Koreans, as announced by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, is 4878mg, which is more than 2.4 times higher.
Excessive sodium intake is a major cause of various diseases, so it is important to appropriately limit sodium intake, but many people do not know what the appropriate level is.
The city plans to effectively manage chronic diseases by renting out digital salinity meters for free, allowing easy measurement of salinity at home.
In particular, the city aims to increase participation in the project at home, which is the most important place for dietary improvement, to improve awareness of healthy eating culture and sodium reduction.
The salinity meter rental is available to adults aged 19 and older living in the area who wish to follow a low-sodium diet.
To rent, visit the Health Promotion Office at the public health center or make a reservation by phone, receive training from the person in charge, and then receive the meter.
The device can be used for two weeks after rental, and the rental period can be extended up to one month once.
The city plans to provide individual nutrition education and customized counseling to citizens who rent the meters, and if necessary, offer tailored health management services linked to community health programs.
A public health center official said, “We plan to help promote health through sodium reduction management,” and added, “We hope many citizens form habits of practicing a low-sodium diet to help prevent and manage chronic diseases such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.”
