This Winter, the 'Metaverse Musical' Arrives... Dongseo University Selected as Platform for 'AI-Linked Content Innovation Talent Development Project' Dongseo University New Millennium Hall.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Dongseo University is launching a convergence education program to cultivate experts in ‘artificial intelligence content’.

On the 13th, Dongseo University announced that it has been selected as a platform institution for the ‘2021 AI-Linked Content Innovative Talent Training Project’ supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency.

This project, conducted for the first time this year, aims to nurture innovative talents and potential personnel who develop creative content by utilizing and linking artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the cultural and artistic content field. It is also a project carried out to promote digital transformation in the cultural and artistic content industry, including job transitions for current professionals.

Dongseo University, selected for this project, provides step-by-step basic software education to both software majors and non-software majors through the SW-Centered University Project Group.

At the same time, it realizes interdisciplinary convergence through the operation of convergence-linked majors.

In this project, through convergence education involving the SW-Centered University Project Group, AI Engineering, Big Data, AI Content Convergence-Linked Majors, Department of Visual Animation, Broadcasting and Video Major, and Musical Major, an educational program linked to the ‘AI Technology-Based Virtual Human Utilization Metaverse Immersive Concert Project’ will be operated.

The program will run until December 10 of this year, with a total budget of 480 million KRW.

As a partner institution, it collaborates with Pulse9 Co., Ltd., a graphic AI specialized company, and through cultural and artistic content planning and production practice, AI-linked education, and project support courses, the live A.Idol XR (Extended Reality) performance will be produced as the final output.

This performance is scheduled to be held in November at the Sohyang Musical Theater on the Centum Campus of Dongseo University.

Kim Ki-hong, head of the SW Convergence Center and overall director of the project, said, “The goal of nurturing creative and convergent innovative talents at our university aligns well with the purpose of this project, making it very meaningful.”

Kim added, “Trainees will create virtual idols that look like real people using artificial intelligence, compose lyrics and music with AI, and present a metaverse musical performance featuring both real and virtual actors on an actual musical theater stage.”

He further stated, “The major goal of this project is to produce innovative talents who can serve as bridges across the individual fields of musical, broadcasting, computer graphics, and AI technology, thereby laying the foundation for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
