[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate and Governor of Gyeonggi Province, sarcastically remarked about former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, saying, "I thought he was quite an impressive person."

On the 12th, Lee made this comment while appearing on SBS 8 News, explaining his earlier statement that "verification should be limited to candidates as much as possible."

Lee said, "If someone is to become president, their family and close associates inevitably have to undergo thorough verification, and that is necessary," but added, "However, verifying a spouse's pre-marriage occupation or private life and holding the husband responsible after marriage is excessive."

However, Lee sarcastically noted, "After I made that statement, when former Prosecutor General Yoon said, 'I have no problems, so I have come this far,' I thought, 'He is quite an impressive person.'"

Regarding Yoon's criticism of his 'U.S. military occupation forces' remark, Lee said, "I was very disappointed," adding, "His first official comment about me was a red-baiting attack, and it was distorted. That is truly regrettable."

On the scandal allegations involving actress Kim Bu-seon, Lee firmly stated, "Since objective verification was conducted in front of the media and medical staff, it may be a topic for gossipers, but I believe the verification is over."

Meanwhile, on the 11th, former Prosecutor General Yoon expressed confidence in an interview with Dong-A Ilbo regarding family-related allegations, saying, "If baseless slanders for the sake of slander alone run rampant, the people will judge without me having to explain," and added, "If I were not confident in myself, I would not have come this far."
