Heavy Rainfall of 200mm per Hour Causes Flood Damage in Sichuan Province... [Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Torrential rain reaching 200mm per hour has been pouring down in Sichuan Province, China, causing widespread damage.


According to local media on the 12th, heavy rain has been falling in the Sichuan region since the 9th, triggering landslides and river flooding that submerged houses and commercial buildings.


Reports indicate that the number of disaster victims in Sichuan Province has exceeded 720,000, with about 109,900 residents evacuated. Additionally, over 400 houses have completely collapsed, and approximately 26,000 hectares of farmland have been flooded.


Heavy rain is also falling in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanxi Province, Hebei Province, and other areas. The China Meteorological Administration issued an orange alert at 6 p.m. the previous day, warning of heavy rain and flood damage in Beijing, Hebei, and Shanxi regions. China's weather alerts have four levels, with red being the highest, followed by orange, yellow, and blue alerts.


Beijing city authorities advised residents to refrain from going outside. On that day, kindergartens and elementary to high schools in Beijing suspended classes, and some tourist sites, including the Great Wall, were closed. Thirty-one bus routes in downtown Beijing were canceled.
