[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] North Korea recently denied South Korean intelligence authorities' assumption that the North was behind the hacking of the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI).
The external propaganda media Uriminzokkiri stated on the 12th in a commentary titled "Chronic Habit, Stereotypical Method," “There are those in South Korea who are vigorously spreading so-called North Korean hacking attack rumors and stirring up anti-Republic confrontation commotion,” and criticized, “To recklessly blame the North just because the hacker’s alias and methods are similar is nothing but the height of ignorance and stupidity.”
It added, “This is utterly absurd and nonsensical,” and “It is a ridiculous conspiracy commotion by confrontation fanatics filled with hostility to the core, an unbearable provocation and reckless act attempting to tarnish our dignity and image, which we can never overlook,” raising its voice.
The National Intelligence Service announced on the 8th at the National Assembly Intelligence Committee that hacking incidents at the Atomic Energy Research Institute and KAI had occurred and estimated that the hacking was carried out by North Korea or North Korea-linked organizations.
Ha Tae-kyung, a lawmaker from the opposition People Power Party and the Intelligence Committee’s minority whip, said to reporters immediately after receiving the report, “We received a damage report from the Atomic Energy Research Institute on June 1 and are investigating, and it was exposed to North Korea around the 12th.”
