[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City is easing the application criteria for hydrogen vehicle subsidies.
According to the city on the 12th, the key changes include abolishing the requirement that the resident registration address must be in Daejeon as of the day before the announcement date, and changing the condition from allowing only one vehicle per household for citizens aged 18 and over to allowing one vehicle per individual.
The easing of criteria reflects the judgment that there will be no inconvenience in using hydrogen charging stations even if the supply of hydrogen vehicles expands, as hydrogen charging infrastructure within Daejeon is rapidly increasing.
The city plans to establish 10 hydrogen charging stations by next year. Currently, the operating stations are located in Hakha, Jungdo, and Sintanjin. This year, the city plans to build charging stations near Shindae, Nangwol, Jaundae, and the National Cemetery, and to add three more stations next year, thereby expanding the charging infrastructure.
The total supply volume of hydrogen vehicles in the Daejeon area this year is 356 units, with a subsidy of 32.5 million KRW per vehicle (10 million KRW from city funds). The hydrogen vehicle subsidy can be received by purchasing a hydrogen vehicle at each Hyundai Motor sales branch and then applying through the Low Emission Vehicle Purchase Subsidy Support System.
The city selects subsidy recipients in the order of vehicle delivery and registration and pays the subsidy collectively to the seller. When purchasing a hydrogen vehicle with the subsidy, the vehicle must be operated in Daejeon for two years, and if the vehicle is transferred during this period, it can only be transferred to a Daejeon citizen.
At this time, the remaining mandatory operation period and subsidy repayment obligations are transferred to the buyer.
If the vehicle is scrapped or deregistered during the mandatory operation period, the subsidy will be reclaimed based on the period elapsed.
For more detailed information, inquiries can be made through the Infrastructure Industry Division of Daejeon City Hall.
Myung No-chung, Director of the Science and Industry Bureau, said, “Daejeon started the hydrogen vehicle supply project in 2019 to achieve carbon neutrality and has supplied 604 hydrogen vehicles to date. Currently, we are continuously expanding charging infrastructure in line with the expansion of hydrogen vehicle supply to ensure that Daejeon citizens do not experience inconvenience in using hydrogen vehicles.”
