Namwon-si to Operate 'Rest Shelter Program' Starting from the 13th

[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-gwon] Jeonbuk Namwon City Health Center (Director Han Yong-jae) announced on the 12th that from the 13th, the Dementia Safety Center will resume normal operation of the shelter program for mild dementia patients aimed at cognitive function recovery and care.

The city decided to resume normal shelter operations for those who have completed COVID-19 vaccinations to address the worsening symptoms and care gaps of dementia patients caused by the suspension of shelter operations to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

In addition, the program will be operated in compliance with social distancing guidelines (temperature checks before entry, mask-wearing, maintaining distance, regular disinfection, etc.).

The target users are mild dementia patients who have not applied for long-term care services and those with cognitive support grades. Various programs stimulating cognitive abilities such as Sparkling Brain Exercise, Cognitive Training Workbook, Brain Relaxation Gymnastics, Craft Therapy, and Aromatherapy will be operated twice daily for 3 hours each session in the morning and afternoon.

In particular, a shuttle service providing round-trip transportation from home to the Dementia Safety Center will be offered for those who have difficulty using the shelter due to transportation or mobility issues, ensuring safer and more convenient access.

A health center official said, “By providing the shuttle service for dementia patients’ transportation convenience, more elderly people can participate in cognitive rehabilitation programs, helping to eliminate dementia blind spots,” and added, “Depending on the COVID-19 situation, the shelter will be expanded and operated by region.”
