Hwasun-gun Enforces Mandatory Indoor and Outdoor Mask Wearing to Prevent COVID-19 Spread

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do, has closely monitored the situation of daily confirmed cases exceeding 1,000, the increase in non-metropolitan areas, the implementation of Level 4 social distancing in the metropolitan area, and the rise in cases with unidentified infection routes, and has strengthened quarantine management.

Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 12th that, following the administrative order of Jeollanam-do, mask-wearing has been made mandatory in all indoor and outdoor areas regardless of vaccination status since the 10th.

They are urging residents to refrain from hometown visits by children and relatives living in the metropolitan area, recommending COVID-19 diagnostic testing for visitors from the metropolitan area, and are also focusing on quarantine management at major tourist sites and other multi-use facilities.

From this day, the metropolitan area has implemented Level 4 social distancing, and with the vacation season approaching, an increase in tourists and visits by metropolitan area families and relatives to their hometowns is expected, prompting preemptive measures to block local spread.

They will also implement quarantine measures in accordance with Jeollanam-do’s operation of the ‘Special Social Distancing Quarantine Week.’

The Special Quarantine Week will operate for two weeks starting from the 15th, during which gatherings of 100 or more people are prohibited, and events with 100 or more people are allowed only after reporting and consultation with the relevant local government.

Entertainment facility workers are recommended to undergo diagnostic testing once a week, and visitors from the metropolitan area within the last 7 days are advised to get tested, with focused management of quarantine status by facility.

During the intensive management period, the county plans to impose fines and take legal action without leniency for violations of quarantine rules, along with strengthened administrative measures.

Governor Gu Chung-gon said, “Confirmed cases are rapidly increasing not only in the metropolitan area but also in non-metropolitan areas, and the highly transmissible Delta variant is spreading, presenting a major challenge,” adding, “Please refrain from visiting other regions as much as possible, and residents who have visited other regions must get tested.”

He continued, “As this is a preemptive measure to block local spread, please be vigilant and strictly follow quarantine rules,” and added, “Please actively participate in the vaccination reservations and vaccinations for people in their 50s, which started today.”
