Gwangju Seo-gu Conducts 'Child Rights Sensitivity Improvement' Education for Parents

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Seo Dae-seok) announced on the 12th that it recently conducted a parenting education session for about 150 parents and caregivers of Dream Start children at the Deulbul Hall on the 2nd floor of the district office.

This education was organized to help Dream Start parents in raising their children by providing a time to learn together about children's rights.

The session, themed "Enhancing Sensitivity to Children's Rights," was conducted for two hours with a special lecture by Bae Jun-yeol, head of the Good Neighbors Gwangju Jeonnam Regional Headquarters.

On that day, Head Bae explained the four rights of children?'right to survival, right to protection, right to development, and right to participation'?as well as the differences between parenting and discipline, emphasizing that the proper way to raise children begins with parents understanding children's rights.

Since receiving UNICEF Child-Friendly City certification in August 2017, Seo-gu has continuously implemented education related to children's rights to create a community that prioritizes children's rights.

A Seo-gu official said, "We hope that this special lecture has properly established awareness of children's human rights," and added, "We will continue to strive to prepare beneficial programs for all members of Dream Start families."
