Hyundai Avante N TCR Wins 2021 WTCR Round 3


[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 12th that the Elantra N TCR (Avante N TCR) won the first final race of Round 3 of the 2021 World Touring Car Cup (WTCR), a global top-tier touring car competition, held at the Aragon Circuit in Spain on the 10th and 11th (local time).


The competition featured 22 high-performance C-segment race cars including the Audi RS3 LMS, Honda Civic TCR, Cupra Leon Competici?n TCR, and Lynk & Co 03 TCR. Gabriel Taquini, who participated with the Elantra N TCR race car, won the first final race held on the 11th, and finished 6th in the second race, earning a total of 40 points and joining the championship contention.


Jan Karel Vernay, also competing with the same race car, secured 4th place in the second final race, accumulating a total of 21 points and maintaining the top position in the drivers' standings with 82 points overall.


Meanwhile, Hyundai's electric race car, the Veloster N ETCR, also finished as runner-up in the second round of the pure electric motorsport 'PURE ETCR,' held at the same venue as the WTCR Round 3. The PURE ETCR competition featured a total of 12 drivers competing with pure electric race cars such as the Alfa Romeo Giulia ETCR and SEAT Cupra e-Racer. Hyundai secured 2nd and 4th places, maintaining 2nd place in the manufacturers' standings.


A Hyundai official stated, "The newly introduced Elantra N TCR race car, based on the solid fundamentals of the Elantra (Avante), is expected to achieve excellent results once again on the global motorsports stage this year." He added, "Especially this year, with the introduction of the pure electric race car Veloster N ETCR, it will be a year to demonstrate both internal combustion engine and electric vehicle technologies."
