Developing 'Dangjin Port' as the Central Port of the West Coast Economic Belt in Chungnam

[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province is focusing on developing Dangjin Port as a central port in the Pan-Yellow Sea region.

The province announced on the 12th that it will allocate 75 million KRW out of the 150 million KRW budget for the basic survey on the future development strategy of Dangjin Port as a provincial subsidy (reflected in the supplementary budget) and grant it to Dangjin City.

The survey is being conducted to discover new growth engines for Dangjin Port, considering the changed conditions of Dangjin Port after the Supreme Court ruling on jurisdiction over the reclaimed land of Dangjin and Pyeongtaek Ports, and aiming for balanced regional development.

Through the survey, the province will undertake ▲ collection and analysis of basic data on Dangjin Port ▲ project planning for port revitalization ▲ development of feasibility logic ▲ analysis of location conditions and economic ripple effects ▲ calculation of construction costs and review and presentation of basic drawings.

Additionally, by expanding national financial wharves and marine cultural and leisure facilities and establishing port operation and management plans, Dangjin Port is planned to be realized as a complex port integrating logistics and marine tourism.

After completing the survey, the province is also consulting with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Ministry of Economy and Finance on allocating 500 million KRW in the government budget next year to establish a comprehensive national development plan for Dangjin Port.

Jo Won-gap, Director of the Provincial Department of Oceans and Fisheries, said, “We will promote the sustainable development of Dangjin Port through this survey,” adding, “We plan to reduce logistics costs for local import and export companies by expanding commercial port functions and strengthen marine leisure tourism functions through the creation of waterfront facilities, aiming to develop Dangjin Port into a complex port.”
