[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] Woori Financial Group announced on the 12th that at the second half group management strategy workshop held on the 9th, it declared the 'Group ESG Vision and Mid-to-Long-Term Promotion Strategy' through a prior resolution of the ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) Management Committee under the board of directors.
Woori Financial Group's new ESG vision reflects the characteristics of the financial industry, the identity of the group as 'Woori,' and the direction of ESG management, defining it as "A Better World We Create Through Finance."
Woori Financial also declared the mid-to-long-term goals to achieve the new vision, called 'Plan Zero 100 (Carbon Emission Zero, KRW 100 Trillion Support for ESG Finance).'
Specifically, recognizing the urgent need for a nationwide response to climate change, the group proposed achieving zero carbon emissions not only from its own operations but also from the carbon emissions of its asset portfolio by 2050. Additionally, to enhance the sustainability of society and the group, it set a goal to support KRW 100 trillion in ESG finance by 2030, including ESG products, loans, investments, and ESG bond issuance.
Woori Financial plans to provide substantial financial support rather than formal assistance by strengthening management systems through establishing standards for ESG finance, thorough post-management, and transparent disclosure. In April, the ESG Management Committee approved the establishment of the 'ESG Finance Principles,' and currently, Woori Financial Group is also advancing the sophistication of its ESG finance classification system.
Chairman Tae-seung Sohn said at the declaration ceremony, "Under the new ESG vision, we will achieve carbon neutrality through the fundamental role of finance," adding, "Going forward, Woori Financial will take the lead in creating a sustainable society where our generation and future generations can grow together."
