[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] On Monday the 12th, strong showers will fall across various parts of the country. The daytime high temperature will rise to 35 degrees Celsius, and tropical nights will occur in some areas.
On this day, the Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that due to atmospheric instability, showers accompanied by gusty winds, thunder, and lightning will occur until night in the southern metropolitan area, Gangwon Province, inland Chungcheong region, inland Jeolla region, and Gyeongsang region.
From daytime to night, very heavy localized showers exceeding 50mm per hour are expected mainly in the inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, northern Chungbuk, and southern inland areas.
Expected rainfall amounts are 10 to 60mm in Chungbuk, inland and mountainous Gangwon, inland Jeolla, and Gyeongsang regions, with some places receiving over 80mm. The southern metropolitan area, eastern coastal Gangwon, and inland Chungnam will see 5 to 40mm.
The Korea Meteorological Administration stated, "Strong showers will fall in narrow areas, causing significant regional differences in rainfall amounts," and warned, "Due to the recent heavy rains, the ground is very weakened, so strong showers may cause serious damage. Adequate preparation in advance is necessary."
Heatwave warnings have been issued for most parts of the country, and it will be very hot with high humidity and rising temperatures. The daytime high temperature will be 1 to 2 degrees higher than yesterday, with the apparent temperature rising to 35 degrees Celsius. Daegu will reach a daytime high of 35 degrees, Jeonju 34 degrees, and Seoul, Suwon, Daejeon, Cheongju, Hongseong, Andong, Ulsan, and Jeju will have daytime highs up to 33 degrees.
Tropical nights, where the minimum temperature stays above 25 degrees Celsius overnight, will occur in some areas. There is a possibility that heatwave warnings will be expanded or strengthened. Until the 14th, daytime highs will soar up to 35 degrees.
In the islands of the West Sea, dense fog with visibility below 200 meters due to sea fog is expected. The waves in the outer West Sea will be high, ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 meters.
