Ministry of the Interior and Safety Designates 'Korea Elevator Association' as Specialized Elevator Training Institution
Enhancing the Competence of Elevator Technicians
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 12th that it has designated the Korea Elevator Association as a statutory educational institution to enhance the capabilities of elevator inspection technicians and strengthen public safety regarding elevators.
Until now, elevator technician training was conducted only by the Korea Elevator Safety Agency, but with the designation of the Korea Elevator Association as an educational institution, accessibility for trainees will be improved through the operation of training centers in the metropolitan area, opportunities for selecting training schedules considering elevator inspection timelines will be expanded, and customized training support for each elevator technician will be provided. This will enhance convenience for on-site elevator inspectors and enable more efficient training.
The Korea Elevator Association is a statutory organization established in November last year under Article 68 of the Elevator Safety Management Act to promote the sound development of the elevator safety industry through education, training, guidance, and research related to elevator safety. Through this designation as an educational institution, the association plans to provide two types of training in a phased and systematic manner according to the target audience and level: technical training for personnel working in elevator manufacturing and job training for self-inspection personnel working in elevator maintenance.
Yoon Jong-jin, Director of the Safety Policy Office, stated, “With the Korea Elevator Association additionally designated as a statutory educational institution, not only has the range of choices for private personnel seeking elevator training expanded, but the training will also be conducted more substantively, contributing to ensuring that the public can use elevators safely.”
