[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Intops announced on the 9th that it has launched eco-friendly Tower Blocks made from recycled plastic and wood powder on Wadiz funding.
The launched Tower Blocks are play equipment used in the popular board game commonly known as the "Jenga game." It was released as the first product of Intops' eco-friendly business, the 'Revive Project.'
Produced in a limited quantity of 500 sets, it is not just a simple board game but a "fun play that protects the Earth" concept. Despite using recycled materials, it was made into eco-friendly blocks with a sophisticated design resembling nature.
The estimated annual global plastic production is about 359 million tons. Nearly 90% of it is either landfilled or even dumped into the ocean. Each set of Tower Blocks recycles the equivalent of 135 disposable spoons. Compared to making the same product with regular plastic, it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 81%.
The Tower Blocks product will be exclusively funded on Wadiz and is scheduled to be open from July 9 to 22. After the initial funding, the main funding period is planned from July 22 to August 16. The proceeds from the funding will be used for eco-friendly material research costs and donations to the nature conservation organization WWF.
An Intops representative stated, "As a manufacturing company mass-producing products made from various materials including plastic, Intops deeply acknowledges its responsibility regarding environmental issues," adding, "With a sense of purpose to transform discarded materials into new products through sustainable material research, we plan to promote the Revive Project."
Not only the materials used to make the Tower Blocks but also various other eco-friendly materials will be developed and applied to manufacturing items in the future.
Last October, Intops opened the Hidalab site, a CMF specialized library, and established a CMF exhibition hall. CMF is a technical term referring to three important elements designers consider when creating products: Color, Material, and Finish. The Revive Project is also deeply connected to Hidalab's vision.
Hidalab aims to propose trends in various materials and related processing technologies to product designers and further provide services that can be applied to actual mass-produced products. The Revive Project can be seen as one component of Hidalab's goal to apply eco-friendly materials.
Intops CEO Geunha Kim explained, "In a situation where ESG management, the biggest issue in our society recently, is becoming more important than anything else in corporate activities, I hope Intops' new challenge will positively influence the activation of eco-friendly products, and we will passionately carry out the 'Revive Project.'"
