100% Installation of Smart Security Lights Completed by July This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) is striving to realize zero complaints regarding security lights through a smart lighting management system that allows control and management anytime and anywhere.
This project was initiated and completed by Yangcheon-gu as the first of its kind nationwide, becoming a benchmarking model for other local governments.
From 2018 to December 2020, the district invested approximately 1 billion KRW to install IoT smart controllers on 4,810 security lights, accounting for 65% of the total 7,407 security lights.
As a result, the smart security lighting management system enabled proactive responses and rapid maintenance regarding residents' inconveniences, reducing the number of complaints from 1,097 in 2017 to 846 in 2018, 352 in 2019, and 160 in 2020. The complaint rate decreased by 85% compared to 2017, before the smart security lighting system was implemented.
The district plans to install an additional 2,597 IoT controllers by July, achieving 100% installation on all security lights, thereby providing residents with a bright and safe nighttime walking environment.
Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, “I hope that the smart security lighting management system will lead to zero complaints about road lighting, making Yangcheon-gu a smarter district for its residents.”
