Unisem Selected for Ministry of Science and ICT's 'AI Convergence National Safety Assurance and Rapid Response Support Project'

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Unisem announced on the 6th that it has been selected as the executing agency for the ‘2021 AI Convergence National Safety Assurance and Rapid Response Support Project’ organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA).

This project involves developing a program that integrates artificial intelligence technology into local government security CCTV systems in areas such as Suseong-gu, Daegu, to track missing children and missing persons.

Using video learning data provided by the Suseong-gu demonstration lab, established by Suseong-gu Office, Kyungpook National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, and three other Daegu-based companies, an AI program will be developed to perform video searches and track movement paths based on photos, clothing, and characteristics of specific individuals. The program is expected to be actively utilized by the police for tracking missing persons’ movement routes and initial investigations.

The project aims to enable the police to actively track targets by directly inputting tracking subjects or linking with external systems.

A Unisem official stated, “Through the demonstration of AI-based object recognition/identification/tracking technology trained on multi-CCTV footage from the field, we will establish a technical foundation that can be supplied to local governments and applied in various fields.” He added, “We plan to discover necessary services for each local government and expand the project to a metropolitan government scale in cooperation with demand institutions.”

Additionally, Unisem plans to apply its directly developed AI-based ITS (Intelligent Transportation System), smart safety, and IoT platform references from domestic projects as well as from Vietnam and Indonesia to this project.
