[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Ministry of Unification stated that it "does not know" about reports that President Moon Jae-in and North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un exchanged letters related to the summit held last May.

At a regular briefing on the 2nd, Deputy Spokesperson Cha Deok-cheol of the Ministry of Unification refrained from commenting on whether the two leaders exchanged letters, saying, "We do not know about the content of the article."

Earlier, JoongAng Ilbo reported that the leaders of South and North Korea discussed holding a non-face-to-face inter-Korean summit through letters last May.

The Ministry of Unification had also established a system for non-face-to-face talks between the two Koreas in April. Deputy Spokesperson Cha said, "The video conferencing system installed at the Inter-Korean Summit Headquarters has been under discussion with relevant authorities since last year due to budget issues," adding, "It is prepared so that non-face-to-face talks between South and North Korea can be held at any time."
