[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] On the 2nd, KT announced that it will provide the nation with top-level air quality data such as fine dust, temperature, and humidity through Naver Weather, which offers domestic and international weather and fine dust information.
KT provides real-life perceived air quality data to Naver. Utilizing this data, Naver can offer accurate fine dust levels based on users' real-time locations. Additionally, users can receive information by searching keywords in the format ‘region name + fine dust’ on both PC and mobile versions, regardless of their real-time location.
Since 2017, KT has installed over 2,200 air quality measurement devices around facilities vulnerable to fine dust, such as schools and hospitals with high foot traffic nationwide. KT operates an air quality measurement network about four times larger than those installed by government or local authorities, collecting the largest amount of air quality data in Korea.
The air quality measurement devices installed by KT have received Grade 1 and 2 certifications from the government. Moreover, these devices are installed in phone booths or base stations at heights similar to human respiratory organs, which is advantageous for securing air quality data that citizens can actually perceive.
KT provides real-time, real-life perceived air quality data to the public through Naver Weather and the AirMap Korea app. KT plans to update the AirMap Korea app with an improved version that enhances usability and the accuracy of fine dust information.
In addition, Naver collaborates with various domestic and international weather specialists. Naver uses the Naver Weather service to provide weather and fine dust forecasts and videos, continuously advancing weather and environmental information every year.
Meanwhile, KT and Naver are strengthening cooperation to develop customized weather and environmental services based on artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and cloud technology. The two companies will also continue joint marketing efforts to provide weather and environmental services that help improve the daily lives of the public.
Im Chaehwan, Head of KT AI·DX Platform Business Division, said, “KT and Naver are actively cooperating to create weather and environmental service models that benefit the daily lives of the public,” adding, “As a digital platform company, KT will actively utilize its technology and know-how for ESG management, including improving public life and the environment.”
