[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Choyoung] A story about discovering a hidden camera installed by a friend’s father while taking a shower at a longtime friend’s house has shocked netizens.
On the 30th of last month, a post titled "I was secretly filmed by my friend’s dad" was uploaded to an online community.
The author, who introduced themselves as a university student in their 20s, said, "I have been friends with this friend since middle school, and the three of us often hung out together with my friend’s father," adding, "He called me his adopted daughter and treated me like a real daughter. I also took care of him on Parents’ Day and his birthday."
They continued, "The incident happened in mid-June. I was staying at my friend’s house and took a shower in the evening because it was hot," and added, "But there was a car key in the bathroom. At first, I didn’t realize it was a hidden camera, but after showering and checking again, something felt off."
The author explained, "The car key looked exactly like the keys for my parents’ car, but it had no logo and only three buttons," and said, "When I pressed a button, it clicked like a toy."
They went on, "So I searched 'car key hidden camera' on Google and it came up immediately. It was a miniature hidden camera," adding, "As shown on the product detail page, when I disassembled it, there was an SD card and a charging port. It felt like someone was hitting my head with a hammer."
The author added, "On the SD card, I also found videos that seemed to check the camera angles a few days before the filming," and said, "He said he was lonely living alone and went a little crazy for a moment. I have a lot to say, but I won’t."

The author said, "I have reported it to the police and even got a confession," and expressed anger, "He keeps making excuses using my friend and begging me to forgive him just once. I still get chills thinking about how a father with a daughter could do such a thing. It’s driving me crazy."
They added, "He even tried to bribe me by offering 300,000 won a month since my family situation isn’t good," and concluded, "There are really sophisticated hidden cameras these days. Please be careful and report immediately if you suspect anything."
Meanwhile, as illegal filming using miniature cameras continues, a petition titled "Please ban the sale of miniature cameras" was posted on the Blue House National Petition Board on the 18th of last month.
