Gu to Hold Social Economy Week Commemorative Events Until the 9th... Documentary Film Festival and Flea Market Events Scheduled
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seong Chang-hyun) will hold the ‘2021 Social Economy Week Commemoration Event’ from July 1 to 9 in celebration of ‘Social Enterprise Day (July 1).’
The purpose is to widely promote the value of social enterprises and to expand public consensus on social economy and ethical consumption.
The event is organized by the Yongsan-gu Social Economy Integrated Support Center and the Seoul Yongsan Regional Self-Support Center, with the slogan ‘Cheer Up, Social Economy!’
Detailed events include the Social Economy Film Festival (The Economics of Happiness Together) and a flea market (Flea Market).
The film festival will be held on July 8-9 at the Hanok Book Cafe Manri Seojae (42 Cheongpa-ro 93-gil). On the 8th (3 PM), residents will attend, and on the 9th (5 PM), social economy entrepreneurs in the region will watch the 2011 documentary film ‘The Economics of Happiness’ together.
The number of attendees is limited to a maximum of 12 per session.
The Economics of Happiness is a film that proposes ‘localization’ rather than globalization as a solution to various problems faced by modern society. It was directed by Helena Norberg-Hodge, author of ‘Ancient Futures,’ among others.
Especially on the 9th, after the film screening, there will be an online discussion with Helena Norberg-Hodge. It is expected to be a time to discuss the side effects of capitalist market economy such as polarization and environmental destruction and ways to overcome them.
Chairman Kim Shindong of the Knowledge Cooperative Good Country served as the interpreter.
The center will also hold flea market events four times: on the 2nd (Beautiful Store Sookdaeipgu Station Branch), the 6th (Happiness-centered Yongsan Cooperative Ahyeon Store), and the 8th-9th (Manri Seojae).
Products from social economy enterprises such as ‘Dusi Craft Cooperative,’ which creates jobs for women with career interruptions through traditional knotting, ‘Talk To Me Dabap Social Cooperative,’ established by migrant women for self-reliance, ‘Dankkum Cooperative,’ supporting the independence of homeless and residents of jjokbang villages, and ‘Huam Workshop,’ which makes handmade products with the skills of Huam-dong residents, can be found all in one place.
The event hours are from 11 AM to 5 PM, and the event will be canceled in case of rain.
Jo Jeong-ok, director of the Yongsan-gu Social Economy Integrated Support Center, said, “We have prepared various weekly events so that the social economy can have a more positive impact on the region,” and added, “We hope for the active interest and participation of residents.”
The Yongsan-gu Social Economy Integrated Support Center (Basement 1, Hannam I-Park Avenue, 46 Dokseodang-ro) is operated under consignment by the Social Cooperative Insarang Care.
Major projects include strengthening networks and collaboration among social economy enterprises, education and consulting for social economy capacity building, social economy incubating, and promotional marketing.
