[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The Personal Information Protection Commission announced on the afternoon of the 29th that it held the second briefing session at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Seoul to explain the key contents of the ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) Personal Information Protection Self-Inspection Checklist’ and to gather opinions from members of the Korea Artificial Intelligence Association and the Korea Startup Forum.
Earlier, on the 31st of last month, the Personal Information Commission released the self-inspection checklist to help companies lawfully and safely process personal information during the design, development, and operation of artificial intelligence. On the 4th of this month, they held the first briefing session targeting AI-related startups.
This briefing session was attended not only by companies in the AI sector but also by various companies in the information and communication technology field, such as online video companies and smartphone app service providers. Participants listened to explanations about the purpose of preparing the self-inspection checklist and its utilization methods, followed by a free discussion.
Lee Jeong-ryeol, Director of the Personal Information Policy Bureau at the Personal Information Protection Commission, stated, “This self-inspection checklist will help prevent personal information infringement in advance not only in AI but also in the development and operation of services in various new technology fields.” He added, “We will continue to communicate with the field and continuously improve the self-inspection checklist by reflecting technological changes in the AI environment.”
