[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Hansol Paper announced on the 29th that it has signed a business agreement (MOU) to provide its eco-friendly paper container product, Teravas, to Ediya Coffee, a leading domestic coffee brand.


The signing ceremony, held at Ediya Coffee headquarters in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, was attended by Hansol Paper CEO Han Cheol-gyu and Ediya Coffee Chairman and ESG Committee Chairman Moon Chang-gi. Through this agreement, Hansol Paper will supply Ediya Coffee with PE Free eco-friendly 'Teravas' paper cups and eco-friendly paper packaging 'Protego' coffee pouches.


Additionally, both companies agreed to strengthen cooperation for eco-friendly business by ▲switching disposable products such as paper tissues in Ediya Coffee stores to eco-friendly products ▲expanding the application of eco-friendly products and joint development ▲reviewing recycling methods for disposable products.


Teravas is characterized by its use of a water-based coating developed by Hansol Paper instead of plastic-based PE coating, making it easy to recycle. It has obtained certifications from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), the Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL), and the eco-label certification (EL606) from the Ministry of Environment, verifying both safety as a food container and eco-friendliness.


The Teravas paper cups are scheduled to be introduced at Ediya Coffee's directly operated stores starting in July, with plans to gradually expand to more stores.


This agreement is significant as it marks the first time in Korea that a paper manufacturing company and a coffee specialty brand have joined hands for eco-friendliness. Hansol Paper is dedicated to developing eco-friendly materials and products based on its unique technology, while Ediya Coffee is conducting a disposable product reduction campaign called 'BLUE ON EDIYA.' According to Hansol Paper, both companies are reflecting consumer demand for eco-friendly products and strengthening ESG management.


Moon Chang-gi, Chairman of Ediya Coffee's ESG Committee, said, "Through this agreement with Hansol Paper, I hope that environmental activities will increase not only in the Korean coffee industry but also across the entire food industry," adding, "Ediya Coffee will become a company that leads not only in realizing shared value but also in realizing environmental value."


Hansol Paper CEO Han Cheol-gyu stated, "Leading domestic and international companies are choosing paper materials with excellent recyclability and biodegradability as alternatives to plastic materials," and added, "We will focus on developing eco-friendly materials and continue to expand R&D investments to introduce eco-friendly materials and products applicable to various fields."


Meanwhile, Teravas has received great response since it began sales in May through Baemin Sanghoe, the ingredient shopping mall of Baedal Minjok, and has been recognized for its competitiveness and technology by winning the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology Director's Award at the 15th Korea Packaging Exhibition.
