Food Service Wet Wipes and Towels Exceed Bacterial Limits... 10 Hygiene Product Companies Caught

[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (Commissioner Kim Gang-rip) announced on the 25th that it inspected 639 hygiene product manufacturing facilities and hygiene towel processing facilities in cooperation with local governments last month and identified 10 violating companies.

The main violations were ▲inadequate raw material hygiene management (1 case) ▲failure to conduct self-quality inspections (2 cases) ▲failure to report product manufacturing (1 case) ▲failure to prepare production/work records (2 cases) ▲labeling standard violations (2 cases) ▲failure to report business operator changes (1 case) ▲failure to complete education (1 case). The relevant companies were instructed to receive administrative sanctions from the competent local governments.

In addition, as a result of collecting and inspecting 398 hygiene products in distribution, it was confirmed that one hygiene towel and one wet tissue for food service establishments exceeded the bacterial count standards. One cleaning agent had a pH level below the standard, so the product was discarded and administrative sanctions were requested for the relevant company.

Disposable chopsticks, forks, and spoons, whose use has recently surged, all met the standards and specifications for hygiene products.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety stated, "We will continue to provide guidance and inspections to raise the safety management level of hygiene products, and strictly manage illegal activities by combining sanctions and prosecutions."
