602 Local Cases, 32 Imported Cases
3 out of 4 Total Confirmed Cases Are in the 'Sudogwon' Area
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] The number of new domestic COVID-19 cases in South Korea remained in the 600s for the third consecutive day.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced on the 25th at midnight that 634 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 153,789. Of these, 602 were locally transmitted cases and 32 were imported cases. On the same day, the number of suspected case tests was 27,763, with 29,118 tests conducted at temporary screening clinics in the metropolitan area and 987 tests at temporary screening clinics outside the metropolitan area, totaling 57,868 tests. At the metropolitan area temporary screening clinics, 90 people tested positive.
In the metropolitan area, 467 cases were confirmed: 264 in Seoul, 179 in Gyeonggi, and 24 in Incheon. This accounts for 73.7% of the total confirmed cases concentrated in the metropolitan area. Outside the metropolitan area, cases were reported as follows: 27 in Busan, 17 each in Jeonnam and Gyeongnam, 16 in Ulsan, 13 in Gangwon, 10 in Chungbuk, 8 in Daejeon, 5 each in Gwangju and Daegu, 4 each in Chungnam and Jeju, 2 in Sejong, and 1 in Jeonbuk.
There were 32 imported cases, with 13 detected during quarantine and the rest confirmed in the community. Among them, 21 were Korean nationals and 11 were foreigners.
The cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths increased by one from the previous day to 2,009. The number of critically ill patients increased by two to 143. An additional 601 patients were declared recovered and released from isolation, bringing the total to 145,389.
According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team, as of midnight on the same day, 31,320 people received their first dose, bringing the cumulative total of first-dose recipients to 15,199,919. The number of people who completed vaccination increased by 106,798 to a total of 4,521,785. The vaccination rate relative to the population was 29.6% for the first dose and 8.8% for those fully vaccinated.
