Gangseo-gu to Operate 'Film Humanities Education' and 'Film Criticism Lectures'... Four Sessions per Course, Online Education Using Zoom
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Noh Hyun-song) announced that starting from July, it will operate online courses themed around movies, including ‘Film Humanities’ and ‘Film Criticism Lectures.’
The purpose is to enhance residents' understanding and interest in film arts and to strengthen their ability to appreciate movies.
First, the Film Humanities course will be held under the theme ‘My Story in Movies,’ divided into adult and youth lectures.
The adult ‘Film Humanities Lecture’ will be held at 7:30 PM for four weeks starting July 6, making it convenient for working adults to attend without burden.
Participants will watch a total of four films ▲Julie & Julia ▲The Miracle Bellie ▲Little Women ▲Forrest Gump, experiencing humanities through movies and finding comfort in the messages within the films.
The youth ‘Film Humanities Lecture’ will run for four weeks starting July 21, coinciding with the vacation period.
In the youth humanities course, four films ▲Masquerade ▲Inside Out ▲Monsters University ▲Temple Grandin will address major youth concerns such as career paths, relationships, and communication.
Alongside the Film Humanities course, the ‘Film Criticism Lecture’ will be held for four weeks starting July 20 under the theme ‘Talking to Movies.’
Journalist Song Won-kyung from Cine 21 will serve as the instructor, helping participants build film knowledge and deepen their understanding through professional criticism lectures. The lectures include ▲Reviews and Essays, and Criticism ▲Trivial Histories of Film ▲Shot, Point of View, Montage, Long Take: Film Language ▲Group Critique and Revision.
Anyone interested in films and residing in Gangseo-gu can apply for the ‘Film Humanities Lecture’ and ‘Film Criticism Lecture’ through the ‘Gangseo-gu Video Media Center website.’
The ‘Film Humanities Lecture’ is free of charge, while the ‘Film Criticism Lecture’ requires a 10,000 KRW tuition fee. Each course has a capacity of 15 participants, accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

A district official said, “We have prepared courses that allow residents to enjoy films and enrich their lives. As this is a great opportunity to broaden one’s perspective on movies, we encourage many interested residents to apply.”
The district plans to open additional ‘Film Humanities’ and ‘Film Criticism’ courses with new films in the second half of the year (scheduled for September to November).
