Seoul Fire Department's 119 Fire Trucks Launch Residential Fire Safety Campaign

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 25th that it will conduct online and offline promotions using fire trucks and other means to raise public awareness about residential fire safety.

According to the Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters, residential fires accounted for 41.6% of all fires that occurred in Seoul over the past three years, and 63.8% of all fire-related deaths occurred in residential fires.

Accordingly, the Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters is promoting the prevention of casualties from residential fires by posting banners and distributing printed materials about fire alarms, promoting through SNS, installing fire safety murals, fire truck promotions, and large wrapping advertisements on fire stations.

In particular, to prepare for fires caused by increased electricity usage during the summer, they plan to attract public interest through promotions using fire trucks. The promotional materials, featuring active firefighters as models, inform about the installation of residential fire alarms and will be attached to 119 fire trucks for promotion.

Additionally, unique promotions such as producing online video content with the participation of private experts and installing fire safety murals have received positive feedback from citizens.

The online video content was produced in collaboration with the Fire and Disaster Headquarters by ‘Mission Possible,’ a YouTube channel with 860,000 subscribers, as a talent donation. Since the video was posted in April, it has achieved 470,000 views to date.

Moreover, the channel operator Agent H did not stop at video production but also launched a ‘Fire Safety Facility Installation Campaign for Vulnerable Groups’ in cooperation with the National Disaster Relief Association, resulting in a donation funding campaign with 1,918 participants.

The donated items were delivered to the Gangbuk Fire Station in Seoul and will be used to install residential fire safety facilities in 400 households of vulnerable groups in the area.

In addition, last May, a fire safety mural was installed on a main road near a densely populated residential area on Deokheung-ro in Nowon-gu through collaboration with Samhwa Paint, attracting the attention of local residents. The mural, measuring 30 meters in length and 2.5 meters in height, was created by mural artist Hwang Seong-bo with the theme of ‘Installation of Residential Fire Safety Facilities.’

The Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters is also preparing promotions using fire stations. Accordingly, a large wrapping promotional material will be installed at the Itaewon 119 Safety Center, located in an area with heavy foot traffic. The exterior wall of the station will feature content expressing ‘Firefighters and Fire Alarms Protecting Citizens’ Lives 24 Hours a Day,’ with installation scheduled to be completed in early July.

Choi Tae-young, head of the Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters, said, “We are implementing various fire safety policies to prevent casualties from residential fires,” and added, “We will continue to draw public interest and cooperation through multifaceted promotions.”
