[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Samsung Display has decided to administer the Moderna vaccine in-house to its employees starting at the end of next month.
Samsung Display announced on the 24th that, in consultation with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, it will begin in-house vaccination at its workplaces from July 27. The vaccination will be conducted using the Moderna vaccine.
The vaccination targets are employees aged 18 to 59 and resident partner company staff working at Samsung Display’s Asan 1, Asan 2, Giheung, and Cheonan sites. Since the Giheung and Cheonan sites do not have affiliated clinics, they are classified as vaccination targets at Samsung Electronics DS affiliated clinics, where vaccinations will be carried out.
The first dose vaccination period is from July 27 to August 18, and the second dose period is from August 25 to September 17. Samsung Display plans to start accepting vaccination applications from employees and resident partner company staff from the 25th.
The COVID-19 prevention task force (TF) operated by Samsung Display stated in an internal notice the day before, "We have consulted with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency regarding ‘in-house vaccination’ for employees," and added, "Employees currently working can receive the vaccine in-house if they wish."
Earlier this month, the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency sent official letters to companies through local employment and labor offices, promoting in-house vaccination through affiliated clinics at workplaces. Accordingly, some companies reviewed plans to use affiliated clinics for vaccination. Samsung Display is the first to officially confirm workplace in-house vaccination.
Other Samsung affiliates that currently have affiliated clinics capable of in-house vaccination are also increasingly likely to implement in-house vaccination. Companies are expanding infrastructure for in-house vaccination by recruiting medical staff. Since the 11th, Kangbuk Samsung Hospital has been hiring double-digit part-time nurses to handle vaccination duties at Samsung Electronics’ affiliated clinics located in Suwon, Giheung, Hwaseong, Pyeongtaek, Cheonan, and Onyang workplaces. Other affiliates such as Samsung SDI have also posted job openings for contract or part-time nurses.
Additionally, LG Display has been recruiting contract nursing staff to work at its Seoul, Paju, and Gumi sites since the 14th. Hyundai Motor Group is expected to conduct the first dose vaccination from late July to early August at three domestic Hyundai Motor plants, three Kia domestic plants, and Hyundai Steel’s Incheon and Pohang plants.
