[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] The Statistics Korea announced that it held the "7th National Quality of Life Measurement Forum" online on the 24th to diagnose the current status of the "quality of life" that the public can feel and to explore policy utilization.
The National Quality of Life Measurement Forum is a place to share research experience and expertise related to quality of life measurement and policy utilization, and has been held annually since 2015. This year, it is held under the theme of "Changes in Quality of Life Due to the COVID-19 Crisis and the Current Status of the Elderly's Quality of Life."
Jeon Young-il, President of the Statistical Development Institute, said, "In this forum, we verify based on key data how the economic and social shocks caused by the global COVID-19 crisis have brought changes to the quality of life of the Korean people," adding, "We hope to expand 'evidence-based quality of life policies' through the forum."
The first session focused on "COVID-19 Crisis and Changes in Quality of Life," reviewing overall changes in quality of life, daily life, and perceptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and centered on presentations and discussions about changes in leisure activities and the quality of life of adolescents.
The second session discussed "The Current Status and Measurement Methods of the Elderly's Quality of Life" targeting the elderly population. Discussions were held on the overall status and satisfaction of the elderly's quality of life, objective realities of the elderly's quality of life seen through international comparisons and safety indicators, and the indicator system for measuring the quality of life of the elderly.
Ryu Geun-gwan, Commissioner of Statistics Korea, said, "I hope this forum will be actively utilized not only to improve the overall quality of life in our society but also to develop timely welfare and social policies necessary to improve the quality of life of vulnerable groups such as the elderly."
