[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) opened the ‘Gangnam Smart Lounge’ on the 6th floor of Gangnam Senior Plaza in Yeoksam-dong (332 Bongeunsa-ro) on the afternoon of the 24th, a space for IT experience and education for the elderly.
The 136㎡ ‘Gangnam Smart Lounge’ is a space where elderly people, vulnerable to information in the rapidly changing digital environment due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, can experience smart devices and receive training on how to use them, ensuring they are not left behind and can adapt.
Anyone aged 60 or older can enjoy various ‘Smart Table Games’ such as brain health exercise games here.
It operates by reservation, and residents from other districts can also participate in various experiences. Visitors can also try various smart devices such as the ‘Conversational AI Companion Robot’ that provides various lifestyle information and news, the ‘Sketch Aquarium’ (AR) using a 3D scanner, and sports equipment (VR) utilizing virtual reality technology.
The ‘Smart Art Gallery’ installed in the corridor is a platform where artworks can be freely exhibited, and visitors can also view world-famous paintings. An educational program on how to use unavoidable IT devices in daily life, such as smartphones and kiosks, will be offered to help seniors engage in activities like drawing or video editing on PCs.
Meanwhile, in March, the district opened ‘Digital Counseling Centers’ at Samsung 2-dong and Daechi 2-dong community centers, providing one-on-one consultations on the use of PCs, smartphones, and kiosks.
