30 Billion KRW Invested for Landslide and Forest Damage Restoration, 15 Forest Damage Recovery Projects Completed
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Miseok] Gurye-gun, Jeonnam (Governor Kim Sunho) announced on the 23rd that it has completed all restoration work on forest damage caused by last year's heavy rain before the full-scale rainy season begins.
Last year, the county experienced unprecedented heavy rain causing forest damage such as landslides over 12ha and forest roads of 0.21km, and proceeded with restoration work investing 3 billion KRW.
The county quickly established a landslide restoration plan to alleviate residents' concerns caused by forest damage.
Experts conducted on-site investigations, completed cause analysis and design services in October last year, and started the project early.
To ensure rapid restoration, the county monitored progress weekly, conducted on-site inspections and countermeasure meetings for underperforming sites monthly, and completed all 15 forest damage restoration projects on the 6th.
Governor Kim Sunho said, "Since heavy rain due to abnormal climate is expected again this summer as last year, early restoration of landslide damage sites and timely completion of erosion control projects were very important," adding, "We will pay special attention and care so that residents can spend the summer in a safe environment."
Meanwhile, after the completion inspection, the county plans to regularly inspect the sites at least twice a year and immediately carry out repair work if defects occur to prevent secondary damage.
