Logistics Center Security Firm 'Joeun System' Issues Rebuttal
Security Guard Claims Mental Distress... "It's Unfair"
"Selected as Top Company at Incheon Airport... Who Would Give Us Work?"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] A claim has emerged that part of a Blue House petition post alleging that a security guard ignored reports during the Coupang Deokpyeong Logistics Center fire is "groundless."
The security service company 'Joeun System,' responsible for the logistics center's security, issued a rebuttal. The security guard in question is reportedly suffering from psychological distress and is considering legal action.
On the 22nd, Joeun System released a statement saying, "Regarding the fire incident at the Icheon logistics center, some media outlets have distorted the facts by reporting that the security guard said, 'I'll handle it myself, so go home,' immediately after the fire was reported."
They added, "After investigating the security guard, it was confirmed that no such statement was made. The security guard responded, 'Yes, understood. I will check,' and immediately requested fire confirmation from the team leader via radio."
According to Joeun System, the team leader then personally confirmed the fire and ordered evacuation. The security guard stationed at the first-floor checkpoint checked the interior once more, saw smoke rising and no moving people or vehicles, and evacuated outside immediately.
They also stopped vehicles that were in operation and controlled vehicles entering the access road, taking appropriate measures.
A Joeun System official told Asia Economy on the 23rd, "The security guard is suffering from psychological distress, saying, 'I just can't endure this. I can't sleep because of the injustice.'" He added, "We are also considering filing a false accusation lawsuit against the employee who posted the message. The guard says they want to clear their name even if it requires a three-party meeting."
He further emphasized, "Security staff receive service training once a month. Having worked at Incheon Airport for over 10 years, they were even selected as an excellent company. The claims that the fire report was ignored or mocked are not true."
He lamented, "As the post spreads, employees appear negligent, and the company seems problematic. Who would want to give us work?" He also said, "This has caused significant damage to the company's image, and we are considering legal measures."
Joeun System is a specialized company responsible for comprehensive management of large facilities, security at domestic airports, and access control at key facilities. It is known that about 50 people were working at the Deokpyeong Logistics Center where the fire occurred.
Earlier, on the 20th, a post titled "The Deokpyeong Coupang Logistics Center fire was not the first" was published on the Blue House petition board. The author, Mr. A, introduced himself as "a worker who discovered the fire 10 minutes earlier than the first reporter."
He said he reported the fire and requested action from a security guard at the checkpoint who had a radio and a cellphone, but was calmly told, "It's not a fire, so don't worry and go home. Even if it is a fire, there's only one way out, so if there's a fire, I'll handle it myself."
Mr. A also informed the watchman (site management staff) on the second basement floor again, but was told, "There are frequent malfunctions, so if you say it's a fire, you'll be like the boy who cried wolf."
