AmCham Holds Special Meeting Inviting Lee Nak-yeon
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Lee Nak-yeon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated, "ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) must now move beyond investor- or manager-centered ESG to a 'Lifestyle ESG Movement' involving investors, companies, and citizens together."
On the afternoon of the 22nd, Lee attended a special meeting held at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul, hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM), where he made these remarks.
This meeting was organized in response to the increasing importance of fulfilling social responsibilities while creating sustainable future value after COVID-19, aiming to explore institutionalization and public-private cooperation measures regarding ESG, which has emerged as a key issue in the business community.
Lee said, "If every citizen acts as an ESG practitioner, ESG watchdog, and ESG activist in their daily lives, an ESG revolution will occur," adding, "'Lifestyle ESG Actions' will hopefully extend as a global solidarity responding to the climate crisis, civic crisis, and democracy crisis humanity faces."
James Kim, Chairman and CEO of AMCHAM, said, "It is an honor to hear the vision on the importance of ESG for public and private sectors and the Korea-US partnership through a dialogue with Lee Nak-yeon, who has shown excellent leadership for a long time," and added, "AMCHAM will continue to support and encourage sustainable management in the global business community through its ESG Committee."
