Yongin City Holds Disaster Volunteer Corps Departure Ceremony on 22nd... 6,700 Participants from 24 Organizations

[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province launched a disaster and emergency volunteer corps on the 22nd.

On the same day, Yongin City held a launch ceremony for the disaster and emergency volunteer corps at the Yongin City Hall Convention Hall, attended by Mayor Baek Gun-gi of Yongin, officials from the Yongin Volunteer Center, and heads of organizations belonging to the disaster and emergency volunteer corps.

The disaster and emergency volunteer corps will engage in damage recovery and systematic relief activities whenever various disasters and emergencies occur. The launch of the disaster and emergency volunteer corps is the first among local governments nationwide.

The disaster and emergency volunteer corps consists of about 6,700 volunteers from 24 organizations, including the Gyeonggi-do Women's Association Yongin Branch, Gyeonggi-do First Aid Instructor Volunteer Association, and the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Association Yongin District Council. They will carry out prompt and efficient volunteer work by dividing roles according to each organization and field.

Additionally, the Yongin Volunteer Center plans to expand the roles of volunteers in disaster and emergency response through specialized training and other programs.

Mayor Baek Gun-gi of Yongin said, "Volunteer activities are becoming increasingly important due to climate change, environmental issues, and COVID-19," and urged, "I ask the disaster and emergency volunteer corps to play a significant role at disaster and emergency sites in Yongin."

Prior to the launch ceremony, the Yongin disaster and emergency volunteer corps has been supporting the COVID-19 vaccination centers set up in the three districts of Cheoin, Giheung, and Suji since March.
