[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] Singers Song Minho, Kang Seungyoon, and Henry meet the public not through music but through art.
Art collectors David and Serenella Ciclitira announced at a press conference held on the 22nd at the exhibition space POST (P/O/S/T) on the B1 floor of Lotte World Tower Mall in Songpa-gu, Seoul, that they will hold the special exhibition "Korean Eye 2020: Creativity and Daydream."
"Korean Eye" is a project established in 2009 to introduce contemporary Korean art to the world. David and Serenella Ciclitira, founders of the UK-based PCA (Parallel Contemporary Art), launched the project with the intention of introducing outstanding emerging Korean artists overseas during their travels in Korea.
"Korean Eye 2020" began at the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 2019 and continued with an exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London last fall. Although there were plans to hold an exhibition in Korea last year, it was postponed to this year due to COVID-19. This exhibition in Korea marks the grand finale of "Korean Eye 2020."
The exhibition features 24 domestic artists including Gu Jeonga, Kim Eunha, Lee Dowon, Park Hyojin, Baek Jeonggi, Shin Mikyung, Lee Sehyun, Lee Yongbaek, and Lee Jungjin. A total of about 90 works by 30 artists, including K-pop stars Kang Seungyoon, Song Minho, and Henry, will be showcased.
Regarding this exhibition, Henry said, "It will be amazing to exhibit my work in Korea for this important show," adding, "It’s really exciting to exhibit alongside other artists." He continued, "Expressing myself through art has become a very important part of my life," and "I hope fans enjoy seeing it in person." Henry plans to showcase the work that gained attention last August on MBC’s variety show "I Live Alone," where he demonstrated the pendulum painting technique to decorate his studio wall.
Song Minho, who is active under the artist name "Ohnim," said, "Usually, a song lasts only about three minutes, and as a pop singer, there are relatively more limitations in expression (compared to art)." He added, "Regardless of the medium, I felt alive by expressing and unfolding my emotions and stories more honestly and diversely." He further stated, "I naturally came into contact with art, and through research, I continue to unfold my stories," and expressed, "I am very happy and honored to be able to show my work to fans worldwide through this exhibition."
Kang Seungyoon, who exhibits under the artist name "Yooyeon," said, "Photography has become an important companion in expressing myself," and "It is truly a great joy to be able to show my thoughts and emotions to many people through music and photographic works."
The exhibition will run from the 23rd until July 25th. After the Seoul exhibition ends, the works will also be displayed at the "START Art Fair" held at the Saatchi Gallery in London from October 13th to 17th.
