Announces '2021 Most Valuable Global Brands'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Amazon, the world's largest e-commerce company, has been named the most valuable brand for the third consecutive year.
According to the report titled "2021 Most Valuable Global Brands" released on the 21st (local time) by Kantar, a global market research firm based in the UK, Amazon's brand value ranked first at $683.9 billion (approximately 774 trillion KRW). Amazon's brand value increased by 64% compared to a year ago, securing the top spot for three consecutive years.
Kantar annually evaluates the brand value of major companies based on surveys of 3.9 million consumers worldwide and market capitalization, announcing the top 100 companies.
Following Amazon were Apple ($612 billion), Google ($458 billion), Microsoft ($410.3 billion), Tencent ($240.9 billion), Facebook ($226.7 billion), Alibaba ($196.9 billion), Visa ($191.3 billion), McDonald's ($154.9 billion), and Mastercard ($112.9 billion), all ranking within the top 10.
Except for Chinese companies Tencent and Alibaba, all are American brands.
Among the top 100 brands, American brands accounted for the largest number with 74, followed by Chinese brands with 14.
Notably, among Chinese brands, e-commerce company Pinduoduo, delivery service Meituan, China's representative liquor manufacturer Maotai, and video-sharing platform TikTok more than doubled their value within a year.
Among Korean companies, Samsung's brand value was $46.8 billion (approximately 53.02 trillion KRW), increasing by 44% compared to a year ago, making it the only Korean brand included in the top 100. However, its ranking dropped two places to 42nd compared to last year.
Among European companies, France's Louis Vuitton ranked highest at 21st, followed by German software company SAP (26th), Italian luxury brand Gucci (56th), and British mobile operator Vodafone (60th), all within the top 100.
Aside from Korea and China, Asian companies included in the top 100 were India's Tata Consultancy Services (58th) and Japan's Toyota (64th).
Among the newly entered top 100 brands, Tesla (47th) was recognized as the fastest-growing brand with a 275% increase in brand value compared to a year ago, ranking highest among automobile brands.
Additionally, companies that benefited from the COVID-19 pandemic such as Nvidia (12th), Qualcomm (37th), Zoom (52nd), and AMD (57th) also entered the top 100 brands.
