[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] LG Electronics announced on the 22nd that it will launch a 'Digital X-ray Detector (DXD)' equipped with an artificial intelligence (AI) diagnostic assistance function.
The new product consists of image acquisition software that detects abnormal findings in chest X-ray images and an X-ray detector hardware. Customers can purchase the image acquisition software and the digital X-ray detector separately or as a package.
The image acquisition software applies the AI diagnostic assistance solution from the medical AI solution company VUNO, detecting abnormal findings in chest X-ray images and marking suspected lesion areas with colors or outlines. This helps medical staff capture major lung diseases such as tuberculosis, pneumonia, and lung cancer.
LG Electronics explained that the digital X-ray detector, which is equipped with AI functions for the first time, does not require film unlike conventional analog X-rays. Images are transmitted to a PC immediately after shooting, and the new product sends both the original image and the AI solution-analyzed image so that medical staff can compare and diagnose.

In addition, the new product uses an oxide thin-film transistor (Oxide TFT) panel with high X-ray sensitivity and improves software and hardware to reduce the standard radiation dose to about half.
LG Electronics plans to sequentially launch the digital X-ray detector in global markets such as Korea, the United States, and Europe. The new product will be showcased at Arab Health, the largest medical device exhibition in the Middle East, held in Dubai from the 21st to the 24th of this month.
Since 2016, LG Electronics has been targeting the medical imaging device market and has a full lineup of medical imaging devices including diagnostic, clinical, surgical monitors, and digital X-ray detectors. Jang Ikhwan, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Electronics' IT Business Division, emphasized, "The new product prioritizes patients' health by reducing misdiagnosis occurrences and minimizing radiation exposure."
