"50s Sentenced to Prison for Threatening Plastic Surgery Clinic Director, Claiming Sexual Assault if 300 Million Won Not Paid"

[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] A woman in her 50s who threatened a plastic surgeon by falsely claiming she had been sexually assaulted was sentenced to prison. It was revealed that she even held a protest with a placard in front of the hospital.

The Changwon District Court Criminal Division 1 (Presiding Judge Kim Minsang) announced on the 21st that it sentenced a 56-year-old woman, A, who was prosecuted for threatening by claiming she would report false information about being sexually assaulted to the media (including defamation), to one year in prison.

The court stated the sentencing reason, saying, "She repeatedly committed acts of threat and defamation against the victim," and "Considering that Ms. A has been receiving psychiatric inpatient treatment for depression and other conditions, and that no additional damage is currently occurring."

On February 8, 2019, Ms. A threatened the director of a plastic surgery clinic in Busan, saying, "If you do not pay 300 million won, I will report to the media that I was sexually assaulted."

After the director refused to pay, Ms. A held a one-person protest in front of the hospital with a placard. She protested holding a placard containing false statements such as, "I was sexually assaulted by the director when I was a sophomore in college. I attempted an extreme choice due to misandry and depression. I lost motor function in my legs and control over urination and defecation, and have lived painfully and with difficulty for 30 years."

Ms. A also sent text messages to the director saying, "If you want to protect your life as a hospital doctor, do not lie," and threatened to report him to the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons.
