[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Eun-mo] Seoul city announced that there were 108 new COVID-19 cases in Seoul from midnight to 6 p.m. on the 21st, a span of 18 hours.


This is 19 fewer than the same time the previous day (127 cases) and 9 fewer than the same day last week (14th), which had 117 cases. The total number of cases for the entire day was 134 on the 20th and 131 on the 14th. Over the past fifteen days (6th to 20th), Seoul has averaged 177 new cases per day, with an average of 28,741 people tested daily. The average positivity rate during this period was around 0.6%.


Seoul’s daily new cases peaked at 277 on the 4th of this month, but recently, the number tends to hover just above 200 on weekdays, and fluctuate in the 100s on weekends or the day after holidays when the number of tests decreases.


Among the new cases in Seoul on the 21st, 6 were imported cases, and the remaining 102 were domestic infections. New cases from ongoing major cluster infections included 3 from a religious facility in Yeongdeungpo-gu, 1 from a workplace in Dongdaemun-gu (occurred in June), 1 from a religious facility in Gangbuk-gu, 1 from a workplace in Jongno-gu (occurred in June), and 3 from other cluster infections. Among new cases not separately managed as cluster infections, 52 had confirmed contact with a prior confirmed case, and 41 had an unclear infection route.
