[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A special ‘Film University’ is opening in Gijang-gun, Busan. The students are seniors, and the ‘campus’ is Dongseo University, the top specialized university in Korea for film, video, and media, which operates the university.

The name of this community win-win cooperation project between the university and the local government is the ‘Evergreen Project.’ One of the project goals is to produce the next ‘Youn Yeo-jeong 2.’

On the morning of the 21st, Gijang County Governor Oh Gyu-seok and Dongseo University Vice President for External Cooperation Kim Dae-sik met at Gijang County Office to reaffirm their commitment.

Dongseo University and Gijang-gun agreed to jointly seek synergy projects linked to the successful launch of the ‘Evergreen Project,’ a collaborative initiative.

The ‘Evergreen Project’ is a community win-win cooperation program where Gijang-gun and Dongseo University collaborate to provide cultural and artistic benefits to local seniors through film and video.

It is operated from June this year until December 2022, with the ultimate goal of preparing for a healthy centenarian era and creating a happy old age.

This project focuses on ‘the happy life of seniors’ and is the result of Dongseo University and Gijang-gun putting their heads together.

The local government, troubled by aging issues, knocked on the university’s door for a groundbreaking change in thinking, and the two institutions concluded to create a continuous and fruitful program through systematic educational development, moving away from one-time support.

Kim Dae-sik, Vice President for External Cooperation at Dongseo University, said, “This project aims to train senior actors and help them find the ‘meaning of living’ as a source of vitality and driving force in life,” adding, “Seniors can work as senior actors and generate income, opening the first page of their second act in life with this creative plan.”

Gijang County Governor Oh Gyu-seok expressed expectations, saying, “The core of the Evergreen Project, the Evergreen Film University, will train supporting actors and, in connection with the Busan Filming Studio scheduled to be built in Jang-an-eup in 2023, will also create synergy effects for senior job creation.”

Governor Oh said, “I hope that the excellent human and material infrastructure of Dongseo University’s Im Kwon-taek College of Film and Arts will be fully utilized in Gijang-gun to produce substantial results.”

On the morning of the same day, the first entrance ceremony of the Evergreen Film University was held at the Cha-seong Art Hall in Gijang County Office.

Besides the Evergreen Film University, Gijang-gun and Dongseo University plan to explore various win-win cooperation measures within this year, including ▲ Evergreen performances, ▲ Evergreen village media education, ▲ university student idea contests, and ▲ participation in government and institutional contests.
