Painter Lee In-seop's 35th Solo Exhibition Held... 40 Years of Works Gathered in One Place [From Nature; untamed, 193.9x130.3cm, Mixed media, 2021]

The 35th solo exhibition of painter Lee In-seop, titled ‘From Nature; untamed,’ will be held. This exhibition, planned by Supportment Gallery, known for large-scale exhibition planning and artist management, will be divided into two parts.

The first part, featuring about one hundred carefully selected works by Lee In-seop, who has been creating art for over 40 years at Eoseongjeon located at the foot of Odaesan in Gangwon-do, including works from the 1980s to new pieces this year, will be held from the 22nd to the 28th at the KEPCO Art Center in Seocho-dong. The second part will be held from July 1 to August 10 at Supportment Gallery in Seorae Village, focusing mainly on new works released this year.

His artistic world, which constantly explores and observes nature, has gained much sympathy in Singapore and Hong Kong. In particular, Neil Daswani, a Singaporean poet and financier, was inspired by Lee In-seop’s works to compile a poetry collection, which was published despite the COVID-19 pandemic and was also introduced at the Singapore Writers Festival, receiving great acclaim.

Additionally, at Art Busan held last May, Lee In-seop’s large-scale works were sold immediately upon the VIP preview opening, attracting significant attention from many collectors, raising high expectations for this exhibition among collectors.

The theme of this exhibition is ‘The Cycle of Nature.’

He incorporated the meaning of ‘the cycle of nature that repeats creation and extinction’ into his works by mixing ashes filtered from burned oak trees into his paint.

In his works, everything starts from the ashes left after extinction, and on top of that, all kinds of colors bloom, creating a vibrant world full of life. This is a distinctive feature that fully embodies the cycle of nature in his art.

Oh Su-jeong, CEO of Supportment Gallery, who planned the exhibition, said, “If you stroll through the bold brushstrokes of his intuitive view of nature, you will feel a comfortable rest, as if enjoying the resonance of nature along with the mental leisure that modern people have been missing.”
