Public Contest for Carbon Neutrality Initiatives... Linked to Policy Proposals from 3 Central Ministries and 26 Local Governments

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 21st that, in collaboration with the Carbon Neutrality Committee, it will hold a nationwide simultaneous event linked to the 'Policy Proposal Platform' in three phases starting from the 22nd to realize carbon neutrality by 2050. This event was planned as the first project of the cooperative system between the Carbon Neutrality Committee, launched in May to promote public participation, and the integrated platform.

This event is characterized by being a 'nationwide simultaneous event' linking policy proposal platforms operated by central government ministries and local governments. The first round of submissions will be held for 15 days from the 22nd to the 6th of next month, during which anyone can submit proposals related to the contest topics on the 'Gwanghwamun 1st Street Innovation Proposal Talk' platform.

The theme is in the field of citizen practice, inviting ideas for practical actions in daily life that the public can easily participate in. The topics were finally selected through a preference vote from issues identified in advance by the Carbon Neutrality Task Force (TF).

Through the second and third rounds of submissions in August and September, respectively, candidate ideas will be selected, followed by public voting, and the final 10 proposals will be awarded in December.

The selected proposals will undergo deliberation and refinement by the 'Government Innovation National Forum,' composed of experts from various fields and representatives of civil society, as well as the Government Innovation Promotion Council, and will be formulated into policies through the cooperative system established with the Carbon Neutrality Committee.

Han Chang-seop, Director of the Government Innovation Organization Office, said, “This event is significant because it is held in connection with various policy proposal platforms operated by different agencies,” and added, “We ask the public to submit many diverse and innovative ideas that can practice carbon neutrality in everyday life.”
