Applications open until the 25th at local community centers... Recruiting 44 people in 4 fields... High school students receive 1 million KRW, university students 2 million KRW support
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-soo) is extending the application period for this year's scholarship candidates until the 25th.
The Gangbuk-gu scholarship is an academic encouragement grant given annually to low-income students as living support. Selected scholarship students receive 1,000,000 KRW for high school students and 2,000,000 KRW for university students.
The number of selected recipients is 29 high school students and 15 university students, totaling 44.
Applicants must be residents who have continuously held their resident registration address in the area for more than one year as of the announcement date (May 24, 2021), including their children. This year, applicants must not have received scholarships from national, local governments, schools, or private organizations.
The scholarships are divided into welfare, excellence, merit, and Gangbuk Hope categories. In the welfare category, 13 high school students and 15 university students who are experiencing academic difficulties due to economic circumstances will be selected.
The excellence category is open to high school students facing financial difficulties whose entrance exam scores or most recent semester grades rank within the top 20% of their enrolled grade level.
The merit category selects two high school students who are children of residents or workers in the area who have faithfully served the community for more than one year and contributed to the development of the district.
In the Gangbuk Hope category, nine high school students recommended by their school principals for special merits such as good deeds, filial piety, and social service will be selected.
Residents wishing to apply can visit their local community service center. The selection results can be checked on the district website at the end of July. Selected students will receive the scholarship in two installments in August and October. For further inquiries, contact the Welfare Policy Division of the district office.
Park Kyum-soo, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “I believe this scholarship will be a great help to students in economically difficult situations,” adding, “We will provide maximum support so that students can pursue their dreams without any worries.”
