"Unable to Serve as Spokesperson Due to Health and Other Reasons"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Lee Dong-hoon, spokesperson for former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's camp, stepped down from his position on the 20th, just ten days after being appointed.
In a message sent to reporters that day, Lee stated, "I am stepping down for personal reasons." Lee had worked as a columnist for the Chosun Ilbo before being appointed as spokesperson for former Prosecutor General Yoon on the 10th.
With this, former Prosecutor General Yoon's camp, which had a dual spokesperson system with Lee and Lee Sang-jik, will now have Lee Sang-jik serving alone for the time being. Lee told reporters, "On the evening of Friday the 18th, former Prosecutor General Yoon met with the two spokespersons and encouraged them to be more humble and perform better in front of the public," adding, "However, when Lee Dong-hoon expressed on the afternoon of the 19th that he could no longer fulfill his duties as spokesperson due to health and other reasons, former Prosecutor General Yoon accepted this with regret."
Although health reasons were cited on the surface, voices in political circles suggest that Lee's resignation may have been influenced by his remarks on the 18th regarding former Prosecutor General Yoon's potential entry into the People Power Party. On that morning's radio broadcast, when the host asked, "Can we take it for granted that joining the People Power Party is a given?" Lee replied, "Yes, I think you can," effectively making Yoon's entry into the People Power Party a foregone conclusion.
However, shortly thereafter, through a group message, it was conveyed that former Prosecutor General Yoon would decide on party membership after a visit to the people and that he would conclude the matter cautiously without rash actions, using Yoon's own wording. This situation was seen as evidence that Yoon's 'relay politics' had reached its limits.
