[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] On the 18th, China expressed the view that "the situation on the Korean Peninsula is facing new tensions" regarding Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea's remarks related to the Korean Peninsula.
Zhao Lijian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a regular briefing that day, "Relevant countries should seize the opportunity to gradually ease the situation on the Korean Peninsula."
According to the Korean Central News Agency, General Secretary Kim said at the Party plenary meeting, "We must focus on managing the situation on the Korean Peninsula steadily," and "We must be prepared for both dialogue and confrontation."
Spokesperson Zhao emphasized, "North Korea's just and reasonable considerations should be valued," and "North Korea and the United States are expected to create a roadmap to establish a permanent peace regime on the Korean Peninsula and achieve complete denuclearization."
He added, "China will play a constructive role in easing the situation on the Korean Peninsula and developing North Korea-US relations," and "We hope North Korea and the United States will engage in dialogue based on mutual respect, reasonably consider each other, and promote a political solution to the Korean Peninsula issue."
