[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] Seoul City announced on the 18th that it has instructed safety measures at a demolition site located on the main road in Nogosan-dong, Mapo-gu.
Following the collapse accident of a demolished building in Hakdong, Gwangju, Seoul City and its 25 autonomous districts began an emergency inspection of all 359 demolition sites in the city on the 14th.
The demolition site in Nogosan-dong was also halted from the 14th and, after an emergency inspection conducted jointly with experts, received notification from Mapo-gu on the 17th to resume construction.
However, since the construction site is close to a main road bus stop, Seoul City conducted an additional emergency safety inspection on the 17th with members of the Building Safety Advisory Group due to concerns about citizen safety accidents.
As a result, it was judged that there was a risk of demolition waste falling, and immediate measures such as installing pedestrian safety pathways and deploying pedestrian signal personnel were notified to Mapo-gu on the same day. Demolition work is expected to resume after safety measures are implemented.
