[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] Convenience store Seven Eleven announced on the 18th that it conducted a patriotic sharing campaign to support soldiers in frontline units ahead of the June 25 Korean War Memorial Day.
Seven Eleven stated that it provided over 20,000 snacks and beverages to soldiers of the Army's 5th Infantry Division participating in the remains recovery operation. Since 2018, the 5th Division has formed and operated a remains recovery task force (TF) and conducts remains recovery operations annually from April to November in the areas of Hwaseolmari and Baengmagoji.
Along with this, the installation of 'Seven Mini Cafe' within the unit to improve the welfare of soldiers of the Army's 6th Infantry Division is also being expanded. In June last year, Seven Eleven donated Seven Cafe machines to two military libraries in the 6th Division and created mini cafes so that soldiers could enjoy Seven Eleven’s original coffee, 'Seven Cafe.' Due to the positive response from soldiers, three additional 'Seven Mini Cafe' locations will be installed this time.
In 2017, Seven Eleven supported the 6th Division soldiers’ convenience by providing a total of 55 washing machines. They have continued sponsorships such as special one-day date events for Valentine’s Day and White Day.
Senior Manager Jang Areum of Seven Eleven’s Social Contribution Department said, "We prepared this support to express our gratitude to the soldiers working hard for the country at the frontline," adding, "Since 2014, Seven Eleven has carried out a patriotic campaign with military support as a representative activity. Various activities to support the soldiers will continue in the future."
Meanwhile, Lotte is carrying out various support projects for soldiers and military families in June, the month of national defense and veterans. Recently, Lotte Holdings, Lotte Confectionery, and Korea Seven (Seven Eleven) jointly delivered snack boxes worth about 55 million KRW to about 2,000 soldiers dedicated to quarantine support, vaccine transportation, and temporary screening clinics to overcome COVID-19.
In addition, Lotte has created a total of 57 'Youth Bookstores' in the form of reading cafes within units where soldiers can engage in self-development. Eight more locations are scheduled to open this year. The Lotte Scholarship Foundation is providing scholarships worth 200 million KRW to about 100 children of injured or deceased soldiers in middle, high school, and university starting this year. Lotte Holdings also plans to support the 'Proud Army Family Award' newly established by the Army Headquarters this year. Lotte World and Lotte Cinema also offer various benefits for soldiers on leave.
